WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) – A temporary restraining order has been filed against the owners of the Sandy Ridge Apartments in Whiteville.

It was filed in conjunction with the state alcohol law enforcement agency, the Whiteville Police Department, and the District Attorney’s Office.

This decision was in response to crime in the complex. Most recently, a shooting that resulted in the death of a man last week.

The hearing for the restraining order is set for Friday morning. After the hearing, DA Jon David is expected to share a statement.

After the shooting last week, David released the following statement:

“The filing of a civil lawsuit against the owners is eminent. My office has worked closely with the ALE Nuisance Team and the Whiteville Police Department since the last shooting in May. We have met with out-of-state owners on two occasions. Although some corrective action has been taken, we are not convinced that enough has been done to adequately protect the owners, their guests and the surrounding community. Last night’s homicide underscores the need for aggressive action and that is what we intend to do. “
