A community mourns the loss of a teenager who was shot and killed in a Midwest City apartment complex over the weekend.
A former colleague told News 9 that 19-year-old Mareo Brooks was shot and killed in The Ridge apartment complex near North 10th and Air Depot Boulevard in Midwest City.
The victim’s young age strikes close to home for former colleague Dalton Garrison.
âIt’s not easy being just 24 and knowing someone so young who lost their life in the blink of an eye,â said Garrison. “It’s just not a good feeling.”
Garrison says he worked with Brooks for about two years. He remembers Brooks as a generous and hard worker.
“He always had a good drive in his walk, he always turned the worst situations into good times,” said Garrison. âHe’s always been a happy and lucky person. He always made it a fun environment.
Midwest City Police said one person was arrested.
The suspect, who has not been identified, was also injured in the incident and was taken to a local hospital.
It is not known what led to the shooting or how many other people were involved in the incident.
âHe always wanted to make sure everything was okay for everyone,â Garrison said. “He was always trying to make sure everyone was taken care of, just a really good person.”
As investigators process evidence and question witnesses, a family is now forced to go on vacation without a loved one.
âHe had a lot of life to live. Hope he knows he was loved by a lot of people, especially working with him and everything, âGarrison said. âHe was loved by a lot of people. ”
