FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE / KGPE) – A man died following a shooting at an apartment complex on Saturday night, according to the Fresno Police Department.

At around 6:30 p.m., officers were called to the Chalet Gardens near Winery and Yale avenues after it was reported that three people were breaking into an apartment.

When officers arrived, they discovered an apartment’s rear sliding glass door had been smashed and went to check if there were still any suspects inside.

Once inside the apartment, officers found a man in his forties with a gunshot wound in the living room. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

After examining security cameras, investigators said they could find footage of the suspect walking away from the area.

Shortly after, an officer spotted the suspect’s car and attempted to stop him.

Authorities say the driver refused to stop and ended up leading officers in a chase before crashing into a car near McKinley and Dewolf.

After the accident, officers arrested a person inside the vehicle in connection with the fatal shooting.

No further details of this incident have been disclosed by authorities yet.

Anyone with information on this fatal shooting is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at (559) 621-7000.
