A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death in the northern town of Kiryat Ata in what police said was a domestic criminal incident.

A suspect, a 24-year-old man from nearby Kabul, was arrested shortly after, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found shortly after 9:30 p.m. in the entrance of the building she lives in in the working-class suburb of Haifa.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, police said in a statement.

The victim and suspect, who also have not been named, knew each other and were known to police for past criminal activity.

According to Channel 12 reports, the suspect had visited the victim at his home on Smolenskin Street for a drink.

At one point he pulled out a knife and stabbed it before fleeing when the injured victim stumbled down the stairwell, the outlet reported.
